Expanded Format
For the first time, 48 nations compete โ up from 32. The expanded format adds 16 more teams and 40 more matches, giving more nations than ever a chance to compete on the world stage.
Three Host Nations
USA, Canada and Mexico co-host the tournament across 16 cities โ the first World Cup to be hosted across three nations simultaneously. The USA hosts 11 cities, Mexico 3, and Canada 2.
Tournament Format
12 groups of 4 teams each. Top 2 from each group plus 8 best third-placed teams advance to the Round of 32. Then knockout rounds through to the Final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.
Historic Significance
2026 marks the 23rd FIFA World Cup and the centenary of the USA's first World Cup participation. The tournament is expected to generate $11 billion in economic impact across the three host nations.
